Medea
Fall 2024
Reimagining Medea in 1970s post-Vietnam War America brings a powerful new lens to Euripides’ timeless tragedy. In this concept, Medea is a Vietnamese war bride navigating the cultural dissonance and isolation of her new life. Medea’s costume blends traditional Vietnamese elements with 1970s American fashion, reflecting her struggle to reconcile her heritage with her imposed identity. Jason’s polished, all-American look contrasts sharply with Medea’s evolving wardrobe, which grows darker and more fractured as betrayal and alienation take their toll. This concept uses clothing to explore themes of displacement, exploitation, and the human cost of war, weaving a haunting narrative of love, loss, and vengeance.
