No Exit

Conceptual Set Design Black & White Rendering

Spring 2025

No Exit written by Jean-Paul Sartre, grapples with the ideas of what Hell truly is. The biggest takeaway from this script was the idea that the characters are haunted by the lives they lead on earth and seeing everyone move on without them. I’ve designed this floating orb in the center of the stage for them to view those scenes of Earth, there is no escape from it. I also feel a deep connection to the feeling of always being watched and perceived so the orb has an eye shape and the main playing area has what is similar to an iris and pupil shown through light.

The “door” is hidden behind the hallway that seems to extend forever, the audience will see entrances through the use of silhouette and shadows but there truly is NO EXIT.
